Hi Everyone, I just joined the group the other day but haven't received any messages yet. So I checked the website today and found: "I convinced him to join the list, but I see I didn't convince him to introduce himself." "Looks like he's working with INdTV -- that's their streaming Flash player." Oops! So, I'm Michael Verdi. I live in San Antonio, TX and I'm a filmmaker. I don't make enough money at it to pay the bills so I also freelance as a editor, motion graphic designer, DVD producer, graphic designer, web designer, computer consultant - whatever I can get paid for and not mind doing. I've been working with video since 1990 when I started using it in my performance art. From there I moved on to creating stand alone video pieces - "video paintings" that were literally very slow moving video versions of paintings that I was making. Soon after that a member of my theater company asked me to create some video for one of his plays and we've since worked together on about 12 productions. Working on these projects is what interested me in creating narrative pieces. So I produced my first narrative short "The Nosferatu" in 2000. It was an modern vampire story inspired by the 1922 Nosferatu. It had no dialogue (not even title cards - nobody talked) and live music performed at each screening by local musician James Cobb. I don't know why it works that way but here's what I've done about it in the past. 1. If you are using compressor, when you submit your project, select the "presets" button at the top of the window. 2. Then click the "plus" button and select "QuickTime" from the drop down to make a new quicktime preset. 3. At the bottom of the window under the "encoder" tab you will see settings buttons for Video, Audio and Streaming. 4. Click on the Video settings and select MPEG 4 for the codec. I usually set it to "best quality", 15 fps, keyframes every 5 frames, and limit data rate to 125 KBytes/sec. Then click ok. (You can do the math here to get a good idea of how big a file this will make. A 60 second clip will be 60 X 125KB = 7500KB or about 7.5MB. To make a smaller file, just reduce the data rate.) 5. Now click on the Audio settings and select MPEG 4 audio for the codec. Try 32kHz, 16bit, mono and click ok. 6. For streaming, click the drop down and select "progressive" 7. Now switch over to the "geometry" tab and check that the frame size is something like 320 X 240. 8. Click on the name of... [View]

My website stopped working in IE – please help.

My mom called me tonight and said she couldn't view my website. "It's just an empty gray page," she said. So I fired up Virtual PC and checked it out. It doesn't work in IE for both Windows and Mac. It does work in Firefox on both Windows and Mac. Can someone who knows html check my site and see what's up? It was working in IE last week when I checked. Thanks, Michael [View]

When I had my videos in flash there was a small "player" .swf file that loaded an external .flv video. Also, the masthead/nav section on my website loads .jpg's from a seperate folder. FWIW, I like the vogroll but I have weird display stuff happening - at least with firefox. Sometimes the videos duplicate themselves outside the browser window and then don't want to go away. - Michael [View]

I saw that Steve Garfield was using it so I set up a profile last week. Then this morning I clicked on your link and saw myself on the front page. I checked my site stats and found I got 150 visits from them - pretty cool! I don't know about comparing it to me-tv - I think it's just links to sites - no way to watch videos. -Michael --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Joshua Kinberg <jkinberg@g...> wrote: > Does anyone use this site? > http://vidblogs.com/ > > Can you compare/contrast with Me-TV? > > +J [View]

Ok, here's my deal. I'm and artist and I wanted to shake things up for myself. So I started putting my work on the internet to give myself a reason to make work regularly and to see if "something" would happen - like maybe more people would see it than the 25 people I could get to come out to a screening here at home. Well, holy crap! I've had more people view my work in the last 5 months than in the previous 15 years! And the cool part about it is I've made only what I want to and I made it for myself (and sometimes for ya'll). I'm not trying to be famous but I am trying to get my stuff seen. I spent many years making stuff only for me and not showing it to people. I'm over that now. I want to communicate. I love that people leave me comments and send me emails. I love that you can make a video for one person and have it seen by hundreds or thousands and maybe one day millions. For me it's about sharing life with people. It doesn't hurt to share it with a lot. -Verdi http://michaelverdi.com http://freevlog.blogspot.com [View]
