Hello Videoblogers

Hi everybody, I just started my videoblog a few days ago. The address is http://www.freespeeches.net I plan on posting at least 5 clips per week up there, if not more. All will be available in .avi, .rm formats for windows users, and .mov format for macintosh users. This past Saturday the idea occured to me that it would be great to start a blog where I'd put up clips from people's speeches / discussions. I watch a lot of CSPAN, and there are is some great discussion on that channel, yet it is time consuming for the average working American to watch straight unedited CSPAN as your news source. In addition, there are many things that are lacking in our current system of mass media, and I hope to be one resource that can help redefine what mainstream media is. Now for the technical details: My TV Cable is plugged into my VCR, which is RCAed to DataVideo's <A HREF="http://www.datavideo-tek.com/products/dac_100_main_page.htm">DAC-100</A&gt;. You plug in RCA cables in one end, and it translates that signal into Firewire for your computer. I capture that incoming firewire signal with a free program: WinDV (version 1.2.3). I then edit it mainly with VirtualDub (free as well) and use Camtasia (unfree) Studio to convert to .mov .rm or whatever I need at whatever size I need. I've found ipowerweb.com to be amazing for hosting. They have a blog you can use (b2) if you sign up.... [View]

Once the technology for stand alone harddrive recorders become better (i.e. no monthly fees; a bit cheaper) I'll be investing in one with a nice size hard drive. does anyone know of a standalone digital video recorder that will just record like a vcr records? without charging you for a monthly service fee?) Hi, Eric - Don't know if this answers your questions or not, but I use a Sharp HDD/DVD recorder, which has 80GB Hard Drive plus, of course DVD capabilties. This baby has many inputs and outputs, and I've been able to experiment with converting footage to the videoblog. A great value for the money (it's amazing how much this technology has dropped in price). Hope I helped! - DJ Dave - - - - --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, "Eric Botticelli" <eric9897@y...> wrote: > > --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Jay dedman <jay.dedman@g...> wrote: > > do you use Tivo(or some kind of Persoanl Recorder) to tape CSPAN? > > or is everything you tape done on the fly? > > > > and posting regulalrly is the way to go. > > > > > For now, I just turn on my VCR when I hear something interesting will > be on (and also at random intervals), and I'll let it play in the > backgroun untill I hear things getting interesting. > Once the technology for stand alone harddrive recorders become better > (i.e. no monthly fees; a bit cheaper) I'll be investing in one with a > nice size hard drive. > > does anyone know of a standalone digital video recorder that will just > record like a vcr records? without charging you for a monthly service > fee?) In case people are looking, here are a couple plugins to support RSS 2.0 enclosures: WordPress - http://wordpress.org/support/10/13466 MovableType - http://brandon.fuller.name/archives/hacks/mtenclosures/ If you know of plugins for other blogging platforms for enclosure support, please add... How much was yours? Most likely, I'll wait another 6-18 months to see if the storage per dollar increases... as I'm doing fine right now with the setup I have. [View]

Eric - I got very lucky, because I got mine online at CircuitCity.com, of all places, and got it for $389 with 2-day shipping included. And that was a few months ago. Gotta think someone will be having a Christmas sale, and - worst comes to worse - a lot of people will be having AFTER Christmas sales. Getting the feed from the HDD produces a better picture, I've found. Now if I can get my wife to erase the last season of Sex and the City off the HDD... :-) --Dave --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, "Eric Botticelli" <eric9897@y...> wrote: > > --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, "db" <mrstuneman@y...> wrote: > > > > Hi, Eric - > > Don't know if this answers your questions or not, but I use a Sharp > > HDD/DVD recorder, which has 80GB Hard Drive plus, of course DVD > > capabilties.
