The gist of things is that I bugged the Atom guys into dealing with it, and the act of dealing with it is currently in progress, unless they have blown me off in jargon so obscure I didn't even know what was happening, which is a possibility. I'm personally going to stick with the rel="enclosure" syntax until something more definite comes out of the core group. I looked into rel="related" and found that it's legal but so broad as to be not very useful. Because the concept of an enclosure is so broad in the first place, this may not matter.
