It then goes ahead to play the video track since it has the > *video* codec. yep. for eg you used to be able to play avi in QuickTime as long as it was compressed with a codec that QT knew about, say cinepak. but if it is compressed using a codec that is Windows only then QT will try to handle it but probably can't show it.
