Hi Everyone! Thanks for the help! I am learning a lot. Actually, I am not looking for an open source player -I am looking for an "open-source" Quicktime ENCODER, because I don't have an Apple computer! "Mencoder" which comes with Mplayer, is supposed to enocde to some kind of QT codec, but i keep getting files that won't play! I'm still not sure how to make QT videos on my Linux Box for my Apple-using friends in this group! As noted, there are many open source players: Yes, Mplayer is truly a great one, best supported on linux but ports exist for other platforms. It plays almost EVERYTHING right out of the box. (The MacOSX version I tried at work was a little buggy). Helix (https://player.helixcommunity.org/), an open source project that is funded by REAL (I know, crazy huhn? I want to get Real off my site!). Helix is notable because it plays the patent free Mpeg-4 like codec called "Theora" (http://www.theora.org/theorafaq.html#10). Too bad "Theora" isn't very widely used! OK! keep up the good work!
